The guy behind the lens

A self confessed “globe-trotter, light wrangler and adventure seeker” South African born photographer Stuart is proof that being a bit restless is something to embrace.

Raised in KwaZulu-Natal province he always had the awesome beaches, amazing mountains (we call the berg) and of course the African bush to explore.

A former journalist and founding member of the South African Broadcasting Corporation’s science desk, he now lives in Southern England plying his trade as a public relations professional.

When he isn’t putting the ‘elation’ in Public Relations he is an avid photographer who continues to enjoy exploring the world we inhabit and is never far from his camera.

He has come to realise that no matter where he hangs his boots, Africa will always be his home.

“I am not African because I was born in Africa but because Africa was born in me.” Kwame Nkrumah

What inspires Stuart

The combination of being a child of Africa and growing up with the freedom to explore the wild expanses that were a stone’s throw away meant I’ve always been restless at heart… my feet itching to embark on the next adventure.

And of course to create a little mischief and mayhem along the way.

My love affair with photography really took hold in 2006 after I moved to the UK. Having spent six years as a broadcast journalist my interests were firmly in video rather than photography.

It isn’t a giant leap from one to the other though and I suppose one could say I didn’t really have much choice. Both my cousin Allan Ivy and my sister Pippa are inspirational photographers so family holidays in Yorkshire soon became more about photography than anything else.

It is true what they say – if you can’t beat them… Join them.

So please feel free to stop by for a while, have a browse and enjoy my world of fine art photography.
